Vick Bester

Vick Bester is a freelance illustrator, tattoo artist and award-winning visual artist born and raised in Johannesburg. They completed their Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2020 - majoring in Professional Practice, Visual Cultures and Critical Theories, and Drawing and Contemporary Practice.

Bester has a rich background in cultural and creative practice. They have developed animations and corporate identity designs, curated and participated in exhibition and event spaces, and worked as set designer for theatre and film. Bester’s practice is rooted in exploring representation through play, fantasy and the creation of imagined spaces. They have done extensive research on identity and intersectionality, having completed their research project titled ‘Exploring Queerness, Sexuality, Gender and Race in relation to Performativity, Orientations, and Representations…’
